The focus of the research question was to find out the factors that affect small exporting handicraft firms in Ghana. As it
was found in the literature, there were various factors which affect SMEs ability to adopt Internet and e-commerce for their
exporting activities. These factors have been grouped into two categories namely internal and external. From the data
collected we saw that both companies faced these factors in their attempt to adopt Internet and e-commerce for their
exporting activities. However, there were some differences. With regards to owner/manager characteristics, there were
not much problems since the two companies accepted that SMEs are aware of the technologies except that there are some
SMEs owner/managers who are computer illiteracy.
