The revised CAT scale was then administered to two large samples of male and female
college undergraduates enrolled in introductory psychology courses at the University of Con-
necticut. The first group was surveyed in the fall semester and the second in the spring semester
of the academic year 1990/1991. In addition, the scale was administered to 17 adults with a
DSM-III-R diagnosis of Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). Since MPD has been associated
with early and unusually severe abuse of various types (Kluft, 1985; Putnam, Guroff, Silberman,
Barban, & Post, 1986), CAT scores for this group were expected to be high. Data for the three
samples are presented below.
