So. reading through these answers, it appears the actual answer to the question is that Facebook strips out the EXIF data when photos are uploaded to preserve privacy. In my mind that answers why they strip out GPS data, which is fine, I guess. I don't see why the photographer's name, date photo taken, copyright info, camera make/model, settings, etc. couldn't be preserved and available. Even better, offer an option for the user to choose which EXIF data he or she wants to preserve, field by field
