Brucite and serpentine can host substantial amounts of iron (e.g.,Beard and Hopkinson, 2000; D'Antonio and Kristensen, 2004;Hostetler et al., 1966). In earlier communications we have predictedthat the Fe-content of brucite during serpentinization of harzburgiteand dunite (olivine Fo90) increases with decreasing temperaturefrom XMg (=molar XMg/(XMg + XFe)) 0.9 at 320 °C to XMg 0.65 at25 °C and 50 MPa pressure, whereas the Fe-content of serpentine(XMg = 0.88–0.98) appears to vary independent from temperature
