This process is widely employed in the chemical industry due to its simplicity, low costs, and ease of scale up. Purification of biomolecules using liquid–liquid extraction has been successfully carried out on a large scale for more than a decade. Advantages of using this system are lower viscosity, lower cost of chemicals and shorter phase separation time. The dynamic behavior of these systems has to be investigated and understood to enhance plant-wide control of continuous liquid–liquid extraction and to assess safety and environmental risks at the earliest possible design stage
