NDMC is actively engaging the communities by conducting outreach programs and activities. Through interactive sessions, the communities are taught on hazards, risks, their vulnerabilities and their capacities to reduce the impact of disasters on the daily lives. One such programmes is the Community‐Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM). CBDRM which was launched in 2010 is aimed to create disaster resilient communities in disaster prone areas by empowering them with knowledge on identifying hazards, the risks associated with those hazards and how to reduce their vulnerability to the hazards. In addition, they are also taught in basic live‐saving skills such as fire‐fighting and basic first aid – so that they can help each other and be in control of any worse case scenario prior to the arrival of first responders. Since its launch, the program has been carried out in seven Mukims (villages) throughout the country
