After the cores were described and photographed, representative samples were removed for
additional study. These samples were stabilized with epoxy resin, slabbed, and then cut into thin section
billets. The thin sections were prepared by Wagner Petrographic in Lindon, Utah. The process by which
thin sections were prepared and observed follows criteria set out by Schieber et al. (1998). Flatbed scans
were taken of all slabbed samples and thin sections and then contrast enhanced in Adobe Photoshop. The thin sections were examined with a petrographic microscope, using transmitted, reflected, and cross
polarized light modes.
