Jigsaw activities are a great way for students to learn material quickly and effectively. In a jigsaw activity, students divide themselves into groups and each group takes on a portion of a task. After completing the task, the students divide themselves again so that each new group has a member from each of the original groups. The students in the new groups then share their understandings of their pieces of the task with the other members. By giving students an opportunity to actively share information with each other, jigsaw activities foster a greater understanding of the material. They also encourage learner autonomy as well as cooperation. Furthermore, they make the teachers job easier.
