4. ConclusionsThe incorporation of oregano essential oil into fishgelatin–chitosan matrix was successfully performed to obtainbiocomposite active films. Adding of essential oil directly influ-enced the mechanical properties, water vapor permeability andtransparency of the resulting films. The microstructure of the filmrevealed that aggregation and creaming of oil droplets happenedto various extents (dependent on the ratio of OEO added) duringfilm drying. These phenomena could be related with the reductionin tensile strength and higher WVP of films included with essentialoils, as compared to the native film. The films were generally moreeffective against gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus and L. monocyto-genes) than gram-negative bacteria (S. enteritidis and E. coli). Hence,
