How to troubleshoot Web access setup
- Check NAS network IP settings:
First, check the physical connection to LAN port on NAS.Go to WEB UI Network -> IP address to see LAN1 IP address setting details.
if DHCP disabled , verify DNS and Gateway settings are correct . Use the same settings on your PC and make sure you can access Internet from the same network as NAS network:
can you access http://buffalonas.com ?
2- Log to WEB UI on NAS and try to setup Webaccess.
if there is an error:
* Check Key Length make sure it is less than 32 characters
* check Port access (see bellow on how to).
3- Verify local access
With PC connected to LAN Network, launch web browser to http://LAN_IP:Port Ex: http://192.168.11.10:9000
if there is an error:
* Check PC firewall & re-check setup
4- Verfy Webaccess operational by accessing the NAS from external Network USING IP address:
* Look at your router and get your Internet (WAN) public IP address.
With PC connected to external network, launch web browser to http://Public IP:Port
Example: http://74.26.230.134:9000
if there is an error:
Verify by accessing this page from same network as your NAS
Is global/Public IP the same as shown in above on this page ?
if not that means you are connected to another router. Either remove one router or setup NAT through second router as well.
5- Verfy Webaccess operational by accessing it from external Network USING Buffalonas Key
With PC connected to external network, launch web browser to http://buffalonas.com/YouNasKey
if there is an error:
login web UI & click to modify webaccess settings and without changing re-save settings again.
check Port access :
How to: Verify or test port forwarding setup
1-Find out what is your NAS IP and next Disconnect your nas from network by removing pulling the Ethernet cable from LAN port.
2- Assign your PC static ( NAS) IP from step 1 .
3 - simulate running server by running netcat as a server listening on local port in PC.
you can use Netcat (download nc.zip ) to simulate a server. Issue the following command on PC :
ne.exe -l -p xxx where xxx is local NAS INTERNAL port number for example 8001.
For example, if you have webacces running on (NAS internal) port 8001, you can simulate a server by issuing the following command:
nc -l -p 8001
4- to confirm port is reachable from internet, access this page from PC that is connected to the same NAS network. and enter external (WAN) port above on this page and click check button.
