So, if we turn back to the notion of Violence, Destruction, and Absence present in the work, we see that there’s really nothing surreal in the painting: everything depicted could very easily represent an object or subject existing in our reality. But to try to grasp what might be happening in the picture, one is attempting the impossible. The violence and destruction in the work refer to the obliteration of the ordinary; everything in the painting is completely ordinary, but as soon as we try to grasp or pinpoint any ordinary object, our minds become completely inundated by all the other “ordinary objects” that this same thing might represent.
