Discussion
Spring viraemia of carp is an aquatic animal pathogen of
international importance. Since its introduction to the UK
in 1977 it has caused substantial mortality and economic
loss in both fishery and ornamental cyprinid fish populations.
This study aimed to compile available information
on cases of SVC in the 30 year period between the introduction
of SVCV and the UK being recognised free of this
disease by the European Council, with a view to understanding
routes of introduction and spread, and evaluating
the effectiveness of the control policy employed.
