Either attach a letter of transmittal to the outside of the report or bind it in the report as the first page behind the cover and in front of the title page. Write the letter of transmittal in a formal business letter format and address it to the person who is receiving the report, usually the person or organization who requested the report be made in the first place. Include in the first paragraph the name of the report, in italics, and inform the recipient of the status of the attached report: draft, preliminary, final, etc. In the second paragraph, give a brief summary of the report.In the final paragraph, invite the recipient to contact the author if he/she has any questions and expresses hope that the report will be satisfactory or that the recipient will favorable consider the recommendations.
