Provided that a PWM converter is considered, the response
of the current and dc-link voltage controllers of the STATCOM
can be made very fast compared to the change of rotor speed,
which will make the assumption of instantaneous current control
represented in the circuit of Fig. 4 to be relevant. Since stability
is determined shortly after reclosing, the representation of
the STATCOM as a constant current source equal to its rating
will be reasonable. Assuming that the SVC control system is
fast enough to control the SVC to its capacitive limit during the
fault, the representation of the SVC as a constant capacitor is
also reasonable. For investigations of stability, the dynamics of
the control system during the recovery process of the voltage
can be disregarded for both the SATCOM and the SVC, since
only the reactive compensation immediately after the fault will
be of importance.
