A wolf pack embodies the very essence of the word “team”, making it a great college mascot. If you ask me, the wolf is a perfect selection for a mascot. It represents strength, agility, and power. What more could you possibly ask for in a mascot? The University of Nevada could not have picked a better mascot. I feel as though a wolf pack exemplifies the greatest aspects of any team and not to mention is terribly frightening. Although Nevada may not size up with the likes of Alabama and Oregon, this mascot can most certainly hang with the big boys.
Now, I know what you all must be thinking, “How did Nevada think of such an awesome mascot?”. According to the university’s Wikipedia page, Nevada was originally referred to as the Sagebrushers, in honor of Nevada’s state flower. However, in 1921, a local sports writer described the school’s sports teams as a “pack of wolves” after their tenacity and camaraderie. It didn’t take long for the new name to build support across campus and by 1923, the student body designated the “Wolves” as Nevada’s official mascot.
