Emergency and Disaster Relief PolicyWhen natural disasters occur Zontians and others sometimes ask Zonta International and the ZontaInternational Foundation to respond with relief efforts. However, Zonta International and the Zonta International Foundation are not relief organizations and do not have either the funds or the structure to provide relief in emergencies. Ourprograms arelong-term efforts to improve women’s legal rights, health, education and economic status, and to prevent violence against women. The Zonta International Board recognizes that zontians, Zonta clubs, and districtsmaywish to respond to emergencies or disasters; in that case, clubs should comply with the Club Projects Conducted Outside the Club’s Geographical Area Policy, if applicable.A district that wishes to be involved in relief efforts may do so following the Zonta International bylaws provisions relating to making decisions affecting the district and the district’s own rules of procedure. If a district chose to take such action, the governor should so advise the International president.
