In the short to medium term, improvements on both the power generation (including flue gas pre-cleaning) and CO2-capture technology are expected.
In terms of power generation, developments in NGCC technology (e.g. developments in gas and steam turbine technology, supercritical HRSG design and materials), supercritical PC plant, material developments, design optimization, improvement of FGD and SCR units are expected. For instance, there is a need of providing advanced FGD units capable of reducing SOX to very low limits (around 10 ppm) required by amine scrubbing. These FGD developments will benefit both power plants with and without carbon capture.
In terms of CO2-capture technology, developments of new amine-based solvents (with the aim to increase the solvent CO2 loading, reduce corrosion, reduce the energy requirements for solvent regeneration, etc), optimization of energy consumption and capital cost reduction of capture
plants and the selectivity improvement of CO2-capture solvents are expected. An increase of capture plant efficiency will result in a decrease of the ratio of efficiencies of power plants without and with capture, and hence, will lead to the reduction in the emissions of acid gas pollutants. Development of advanced solvents, which will be able to capture only the CO2, and not NO2 and SOX to avoid solvent losses, will however lead to higher acid gas pollutant emissions, provided that efficiencies remain unchanged. There is not enough information available however to allow the assessment of the impact of these changes to the overall
emissions.

Trong ngắn hạn để trung hạn, các cải tiến trên cả hai máy phát điện (bao gồm ống khói khí trước làm sạch) và nắm bắt CO2 công nghệ được dự kiến.Về máy phát điện, phát triển NGCC công nghệ (ví dụ: sự phát triển công nghệ khí và turbine hơi nước, siêu HRSG thiết kế và vật liệu), siêu máy tính thực vật, vật chất phát triển, thiết kế tối ưu hóa, cải thiện FGD và đơn vị radar SCR được dự kiến. Ví dụ, có là một nhu cầu cung cấp các đơn vị FGD tiên tiến có khả năng giảm SOX rất thấp giới hạn (khoảng 10 ppm) theo yêu cầu của Amin chà.
