To determine if recovery under darkness occurred, inoculated
tomatoes treated after UV-C light treatment were stored in the dark in stainless steel containers for 0, 3, and 5 h at room temperature,
19e20.5 C. Subsequent to the respective visible light and dark
exposure, treated tomatoes were placed in individual sterile
stomacher bags containing 20 ml of universal preenrichment broth
and sampled for surviving Salmonella as previously described.
