นโยบายสาธารณะและการศึกษาทางเศรษฐกิจ In 1982, the Korean government created an economic education and information program to raise public awareness on economic issues. In 1997, the program was reorganized under KDI as the Economic Information and Education Center. The center has been at the forefront of raising public awareness and providing education training programs and materials on economic issues, working with schools and students, the media, and the private sector. The center has also carried out the important job of monitoring public sentiment and opinion on economic issues and public policies through surveys and public outreach programs. Since its establishment, the center has produced nearly 120,000 publications including the Nation’s Economy (Nara Kyungje), the bilingual Economic Bulletin, and Monthly Click Economic Education, as part of efforts to improve the quality and quantity of economic information and data available to the Korean general public and international community. The center has been involved in the design of high school educational curriculum on economics, helping to create an economics textbook in 2013, as part of an educational initiative under the Ministry of Education. Since 1990, the center has been conducting teacher training programs for nearly 7,000 primary and secondary school economics teachers. It has also offered education programs for over 5,000 public servants since 1989. In 2013, the EIEC was commissioned by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to develop and administer an economics certification program for teachers. The National Economic Fair for High School Students was launched in 2004 to promote the subject of economics in schools and classrooms. By 2014, a total of 11 events had been held, with an average of around 5,000 students from over 500 high school students nationwide participating. The Youth Economics Class, developed in 2008 to supplement the public school economics curriculum for first and second year high school students was expanded to include middle school students in 2012.
