2.2 The Relationship Between Ethics and CSR
One of the questions business leaders ask themselves is why their company should (continue to) be engaged in CSR. Basically, there are three different ways of addressing this question in the affirmative, namely by referring to the positive business case for CSR (“it’s good for business”, the instrumental approach), or by insisting that it is morally obligatory to do so (“it’s the right thing to do”, the ethical approach) or by combining the points of view and say that, at least potentially, it is the right thing to do both financially and morally (“we should do good, both for business and morally speaking”, the hybrid approach).
