In the painting above, La décalcomanie (translates roughly into “transference”), there’s nothing going on that couldn’t happen in reality. But, the abundance of possibly valid interpretations is overwhelming:
— Has the silhouette on the right been cut out, cut out from the curtain, which now reveals to us to land, water, and clouds it was hiding?
— Could the silhouette on the left be intended to be that of an actual man; meaning that the figure on the right has actually been cut out of an artificial backdrop of sky, then placed in front of what looks like a curtain?
