Former Spice Girl Geri Horner, aka Ginger Spice, has some history with slaughtered lion Cecil.
The former pop singer mourned the lion she met "many years ago" on Twitter Wednesday with a picture of her holding and kissing Cecil as a cub.
"I love lions, met this cat many yrs ago," she said in the post. "One of the most memorable moments of my life. #cecil the lion."
A big-game hunting dentist from Minnesota shot and killed Cecil during a $50,000 guided excursion in Zimbabwe earlier this month.
Authorities said Walter Palmer and his paid guides lured the animal out of his protected sanctuary and onto a private farm, where Palmer shot him and then beheaded the corpse, bagging the head as a trophy.
Two men, the professional hunter who accompanied Palmer and the farm owner, have been arrested in Zimbabwe on poaching charges. The U.S. Department of Justice said they are looking into whether Palmer broke any laws.
