The Dubai Police participated in a cocaine haul worth 1.5 billion dirhams and the arrest of 11 drug traffickers, including two based in Dubai, according to the Dubai Police.Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said that five suspects were arrested in the UK, four in Spain and two others in the UAE on December 1 around the same time.Al Mazeina said that seizure of 1,500kg of cocaine and the arrests were made during an operation named 'Kannary Land', which also led to the closure of a cocaine extracting lab in Spain and its activities across Europe.Al Mazeina added that the smuggling of the drug was intercepted en route to Spain from a Latin American country. He said that this operation was the most successful as it led to the arrest of most dangerous drug trafficker L.R.A., a British national and mastermind of the international drug network. The Dubai Police managed to arrest the 39-year-old British suspect and his aide G.G.M. in coordination with the UK Liaison officer at the British consulate in Dubai and respective Columbia and Spain officials.Al Mazeina added that Lt.-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, monitored the activities of the Dubai Police, which joined the operation two years ago.The suspects were nabbed at the zero hour in different places, thereby curtailing chances of the gang members contacting each other and destroying documents and evidences of their criminal activities.Al Mazeina said that L.R.A, according to the UK authorities, was one of the most dangerous criminals in Liverpool, who was accused of murders, drug trafficking and smuggling of cocaine from Latin America to Europe, including the UK.The Dubai Police investigation had found that the suspect is so professional that he leaves no traces and so they formed a team to observe him since October 2013, when he arrived the Dubai International Airport via Thailand. According to the information gathered at that time, L.R.A has contacts with drug kingpins in the UK and other parts of the world. The Dubai Police handed over details of drug traffickers to the UK liaison officer at the Dubai Consulate. Later, a British suspect L.H. was arrested for smuggling 80kg of cocaine supplied by L.R.A.Al Mazeina said that L.R.A. was very active throughout the year and many of his aides entered the UK carrying drugs from Latin America, Holland and Spain and the gang members used social media to get in touch with each other. He said that in November, anti-drug officials received information that a shipment of 1,500 kg of cocaine, in the pretext of a charcoal container, has set sail from Latin America and it will be received by an aide of L.R.A.The anti-narcotics team geared up to arrest the gang member in the UAE, Spain and the UK at the same time, and arrested all the 11 suspects, including L.R.A and the other suspect G.G.M. The police also seized their phones and documents related to money laundering operations. At the same time the suspected container was detained in a Spanish port.Al Mazeina said that the 'Kannari land' was the biggest operation at the international level and praised the team work of officers participated in the operation and the countries involved in the operationRaid in SpainThe huge raid on a shipping container in Valencia, Spain, revealed the super-strength Class A drug disposed in wooden-looking pallets made of compressed cocaine powder resembling charcoal.
