Multiprotein complexes called photosystems catalyze the conversion of the light energy captured in excited chlorophyll molecules to useful forms.
A photosystem consists of two closely linked components:
a photochemical reaction center consisting of a complex of proteins and chlorophyll molecules that enable light energy to be converted into chemical energy
and an antenna complex consisting of pigment molecules that capture light energy and feed it to the reaction center. In chloroplasts it consists of a cluster of several hundred chlorophyll molecules linked together by proteins that hold them tightly on the thylakoid membrane.

Kompleks multiprotein disebut photosystems mengkatalisasi konversi dari energi cahaya yang ditangkap dalam molekul klorofil bersemangat untuk bentuk-bentuk yang berguna. Photosystem terdiri dari dua komponen erat: Pusat fotokimia reaksi yang terdiri dari kompleks protein dan molekul klorofil yang mengaktifkan energi cahaya untuk dikonversi menjadi energi kimia dan antena kompleks terdiri dari molekul pigmen yang menangkap energi cahaya dan feed untuk pusat reaksi. Dalam kloroplas terdiri dari sekelompok beberapa ratus molekul klorofil dihubungkan bersama-sama oleh protein yang mereka terus ketat pada membran thylakoid.
