Future plans for reader education
Respondents were asked to outline any future plans theey might have about developing any aspect of user education. 16 o the 22 university libraries and 36 of the 63 colleges of advanced education libraries answered with information about their future plans in this area of librarianship. 15 institution expressed the general aim to increase the quantity of user education that they gave. In some cases the need to provide or increase instruction at a particural level or for a specific subject area were was stated. A number of institutions outlined specific plans for producing some new audio – visual or other types of instructional material and there were plans to introduce of increase instruction in the use of computerized informational retrieval.
Another aspect of user education which was the focus of future planning was evaluation. Caulfield Institute of Technology planned to carry out detailed evaluation of their reader education programme , and plans were also expressed by Macquarie university , Nepean College of Advanced Education, Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education , Preston Institute of Technology, and Riverina College of advanced Education.
The need to get accreditation for coursese in library user education was emphasized by the University of New South Wales , which also planned to try to start compulsory courses for postgraduate students. Burwood state college plans to integrate the reader education programme into the academic curriculum and get grades or marks allocated for library assignments
