Our results compare favourably with those of Ling (1969), who reported
that female M. rosenbergii kept in the laboratory were able to lay
eggs twice within five months; he thought that they may be able to spawn
3-4 times in one year under natural conditions. In the experiment
reported here eight females spawned two and three times, and one produced
viable larvae four times, in the 170 days of part 2 of the experiment.
