Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen didn't comment on the outlook for the economy or monetary policy in brief remarks this morning welcoming students to the College Fed Challenge National Finals at the Fed in Washington. She referred to the upcoming December FOMC meeting in general terms, but dropped no hints other than to say that it will be important for the Fed to clearly explain its decision to the public. But stay tuned--she's speaking later today to the Economic Club of Washington, and will testify tomorrow morning before the Joint Economic Committee. Those remarks should be substantive and will be closely watched for clues ahead of the December meeting, now just two weeks away.
