The client will
■ Gradually increase physical activity to a total of 60 minutes of moderate-intensity activity on most days of the week
■ Explain the relationship between calorie intake, physical activity, and weight control
■ Consume a nutritionally adequate, hypocaloric diet consisting of healthy carbohydrates, healthy fats, and lean protein
■ Eat at least three meals per day
■ Practice behavior modification techniques to change undesirable eating
habits
■ Lose 1 to 2 pounds/week on average until 10% of initial weight is lost
■ Improve health status as evidenced by a decrease in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and glucose; an increase in HDL cholesterol; and improved blood pressure, as appropriate
