Research has established a link between integrating monitoring methods into periodic classroomreviews and the later achievement of students involved in the review sessions. Daily, weekly,and monthly reviews can all enhance the learning of new material and, if they incorporatequestioning and other learning probes, can call attention to areas where reteaching is needed.The effectiveness of using review sessions to monitor student learning is clearly revealed in theresearch on the effects of teacher training: teachers trained in methods for conducting periodicclassroom reviews which include the use of learning probes had students whose achievementwas higher than it was before the teachers had been trained and higher than the achievement ofstudents of untrained teachers.
