When representative of countries whose quotas amounted to 80 per cent of the fund's resources had deposited their ratification of the agreement. The articles have been twice amended. The fund seeks to promote the International Monetary Cooperation and facilities the expansion of trade and thus to contribute to increased employment and improved economic conditions in all member countries. To achieve its purpose, IMF makes financing available to members in balance-of-payment difficulties and provides them with technical assistance to improve their economic management.
