There were a number of interventions to move the organization toward its vision and values of becoming a learning organization. One intervention was to use group technology to achieve high-quality standards in planning, design, and production. Group technology involves grouping like problems to exploit similarities in product and processes in efforts to simplify and control the quality of work. Second, the manufacturing process was reorganized around manufacturing cells that operate as discrete, focused factories within the company. All aspects of cell operation, production, and quality are controlled by the teams of people who operate and set them up. Third, the focus was on building and designing quality at the source. The primary responsibility for quality belonged to the operators and cell team members.. To make it right the first time, the operator was given the resources, responsibilities, and tools to do the job.
