Air freight connects continents. It networks our globalised world, guaranteeing
both affl uence and growth. In order to be able to maintain our position as a leading
player in the air freight sector, a long-term strategy is required. Financial
targets must be observed as much as the environmental aspects of our business.
We also see ourselves as being an important part of society, with approximately
4,600 employees around the world, and aim to live up to our social responsibility.
We have developed Lufthansa Cargo successfully in many different areas over
the past year. Our “Lufthansa Cargo 2020” strategy is on track and preparing
the company for the future. The next generation will also enjoy the benefi ts of
our extensive forward-looking investments – e.g. in a new, more effi cient IT
system or a modern logistics centre in Frankfurt – in the form of attractive and
secure jobs for the future.
We will reach a particularly signifi cant milestone in autumn 2013: delivery of the
fi rst two of a total of fi ve Boeing 777F freighters on order. This means that Lufthansa
Cargo will then have the most effi cient and lowest-emission freighter of its class
in its fl eet, thereby taking an important step towards protecting the environment.
In this way, we will come much closer to achieving our target of cutting specifi c
CO2 emissions by 25 per cent by 2020.
We already have a freighter operating in our global route network with a very
special design: the MD-11F “D-ALCC” carries the logo of Germany’s Relief
Coalition – Aktion Deutschland Hilft around the world. As a partner of an alliance
of more than 20 aid organisations and World Vision Deutschland, Lufthansa
Cargo operates relief fl ights to provide help quickly and unbureaucratically in
the event of humanitarian disaster.
Each and every Lufthansa Cargo employee does their best every day to help
the company grow. We are deeply committed to the responsibility that comes
