The purpose of the change management process is to ensure that all changes are managed through standard methods and procedures that ensure changes are
effective, on time, meet their specified requirements and are properly recorded in the configuration management system.
The objective of change management is to ensure that all changes are recorded and then evaluated, authorised, prioritised, planned, tested, implemented,
documented and reviewed in a controlled manner.
The scope of change management covers changes to service assets and
configuration items across the whole service lifecycle. The process addresses all changes at all levels: strategic, tactical and operational. Hence, although change management is described in the service transition volume, many changes will occur at an operational level and be relatively small in nature.
