Having a central information system providing real-timetraffic updates for the whole island can greatly help driversbetter plan their routes ahead of a trip, which is exactly theobjective of our proposed system, DriveMU. It primarily usesthe Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) paradigm to collecttrajectory data (speed, location and change in velocity)through sensors like accelerometer and Global PositioningSystem (GPS) found in drivers’ smartphones, and processes itwith the aim to monitor traffic in real-time. Such a modernapproach has been proved to be successful in other countries[8] and can hopefully be an immediate, cheaper as well ascomplementary solution to the traditional methods currentlyused to decrease traffic load on Mauritian roads
