Mass migration of the Chinese from china only took place after the defeat of the Qing dynasty. The majority of the earlier were less educated and they came to Southeast Asia while the new migrants (Xin Yimin) were better educated and went to West. places are the United States, Canada, and Australia. English has been the major medium of communication among the educated Southeast Asian Chinese.Chapter 4 Anti-Chiness Action in Southeast Asia In Search of Causes and Solutions This chapter examines the root causes of inter-ethnic strife, especially the conflict between the two group in Southeast Asia. It selects a few cases from different countries during different periods in order to identify the roots of the problem. It further examines the common and different factors, which contributed to these conflict. Attention is also paid to the triggering facters and possible conflict resolution. Cause of ethnic conflict: The difficulty of this argument is that there are two factors at work: cultural and economic factors. Chapter 5 China’s Citizenship Law and the Chinese in Southeast AsiaThis chapter talking about the Qing nationality law (1909), the nationality law of the republic of china (1929), the PRC nationality law (1980), the 1980 law : ITS factors and responses from southeast Asia, the application of the 1980 law and Chinese citizens in southeast Asia. The Chinese Nationality Law emerged as a result of China’s interaction with the West and also China’s concern about its kinsmen overseas. Realizing the importance of the Chinese overseas, China declared all Chinese, regardless of his/her birthplace, as Chinese nationals.
