Total demand rose by 2.0 per cent in the first
quarter, higher than the 1.7 per cent growth in the
fourth quarter of 2015 (Exhibit 1.3). The expansion
was driven by domestic demand, which rose by 10
per cent, a sharp rebound from the 1.4 per cent
contraction in the preceding quarter. By contrast,
external demand fell by 0.8 per cent, reversing the
2.8 per cent growth in the previous quarter.
