Probiotics are normally marketed as nutraceuticals in forms of
capsules and powders or added to yogurt, which is most popular
vehicle for incorporation of probiotic microorganisms. According to
WHO 2006, Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms, which,
when consumed in appropriate amounts (106 cfu/ml), result in a
health benefit to the host. Probiotics intake improves the intestinal
microbial balance of the host and lowers the risk of gastrointestinal
diseases by stimulating the growth of beneficial microorganisms
and reducing the amount of pathogens.
