On 20 May 2014, General Prayut
Chan-o-cha, the then Commander-in-Chief,
along with his army who had remained
neutral, announced the Martial Law to end
the protest and violence.
• Then he called meetings with all parties
involved to seek ways out of the national crisis.
• There were no offer of any solution.
• Two days later, on 22 May 2014, General Prayut called another
meeting with the same groups to find ways out of the crisis.
With no response, Prayut suggested the government resign,
and the PDRC to end protesting demonstrations. Yingluck’s
government refused to resign, PDRC refused to dissolve.
• At the dead end, gen Prayuth said politely but in a determined
manner: I then need to stage a coup.
• Prayut then assumed control of the country as NCPO leader.
