Interdisciplinary collaborationSeveral participants reported that the clinical leadertried to promote active collaboration between membersof different disciplines. By leaving little room for conflictsand by making clear-cut agreements, he promoteda good understanding between the medical staff, thetherapists and the nursing team. Further, nurses wereencouraged to approach the physician if needed, whilein the past that would be the responsibility of the headnurse. As shown by the following quote from one nurse,improved multidisciplinary collaboration affects carepositively:In former days, the head nurse was always consultedconcerning wound care. Now this is discussedmore rapidly with colleagues. Also thetherapists are [now] referred to the nursing teamfor recommendations about wound care. Theinformation they obtain will be more precise….
