Abstract The existence of public confidence in the quality of a drug which considers that patent drugs with higher prices have a good quality compared to the quality of generic drugs. Although at a low price, the quality of generic drugs is not in doubt, considering generic drugs are also received the same treatment in terms of evaluation of the fulfillment of the criteria of efficacy, safety and quality of medicines. The aim of this study is to determine the public's knowledge about generic and patent drugs in the Krompeng village, Talun districts, Pekalongan regency. The type of research is descriptive by using the method of data collection in the form of a questionnaire. From this study, it shows that people's knowledge about the classification of drugs is 42%, generic drugs is 39%, patent drugs is 30%, drug efficacy is 36%, drug prices is 47%, generic with logo is 29%, drug packaging is 36%, logo of generic 34%, generic drug samples is 41%, and examples of patent drugs is 38%.
