One powerful discussion for you to lead while creating the Future State Map concerns
the bureaucratic burdens (such as excess paperwork, waiting on approvals,
etc.) that many transactional employees face every day. Have employees state
which approvals, audits, checks, meetings, and other activities that they believe
are non-value-added activities that they currently must endure to complete their
duties. Look for any and every waste associated with these burdens, and develop
solutions that can be incorporated into the future state. Eliminating as many of
these NVA activities as possible can quickly result in big cost savings and more
satisfied employees.
