School rules
1. PREAMBLE
The objectives of the Rules and Regulations are to ensure the smooth functioning of the school and the security of the people within it.
The school provides both learning and an educational environment, thus the Rules and Regulations have been set to facilitate the initiation to community life.
The Rules and Regulations result from a joint effort between teaching personnel, the school administration and the parents. They take into account the general instructions as stipulated in the basic Rules and Regulations (Circular 91-124 dated 6 June 1991). They are revised annually and amended if necessary during the Advisory Council’s first session.
The enrolment of a student at the school François le Vaillant validates the adherence and commitment to respect the present Rules and Regulations. These Rules and Regulations are issued to the members of the school community. They are applicable to all activities organised by the school. Any failure to abide by them will result in disciplinary procedures.
The Rules and Regulations define the rights and duties of every member of the school community.
The school François Le Vaillant abides by the principles applied in French schools:
- Secularism
- Political and ideological neutrality
- Tolerance and respect of others in their personality, work and convictions
- Respect for private or community property
2. REGISTRATIONS- SEPARATIONS
Enrolment at the school is open to students of French nationality, and within the limit of availability, to students of other nationalities who fulfil the requirements for admission in a French public teaching institution.
As stipulated by clause L.141-5-1 of the education code, the exhibition of signs or clothing that obviously reflects a religious denomination is forbidden.
Should a student disregard the above, the Principal will organise a discussion with the student prior to initiating any disciplinary procedure.
Admission in the grade requested is based on the evaluation reports for primary students or on quarterly progress reports received from the CNED for secondary students with, eventually, the record of the decision for promotion to the next grade taken by the teachers’ council (i.e. primary school, local public teaching institutions or French schools abroad).
The Council decides admission for Overseas Cooperation and Cultural Services of Pretoria for incoming students from a private or foreign institution not recognised by the French Ministry of Education. Certain documents are required for enrolment including the Separation Certificate issued by the previous institution.
Admission is effective only after submission of a complete application and full settlement of admission fees. Please note that in accordance with French rules and regulations, schooling is compulsory until 16 years of age.
3. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
a) Entry and exit of the primary school
Access to the school premises is only authorised from 7:30 a.m.
From then onwards, students are supervised at the aftercare located in the schoolyard.
Afterwards:
- Pre-primary students are handed over to their parents or to the person (s) who have been duly authorised to take them.
- Primary students leave with their parents or alone with prior authorisation from their parents.
- If students attend co-curricular activities, they are then under the supervision of the person facilitating the activities. The parents remunerate this person. Though the activities are organised at the school; nevertheless, the persons facilitating them are not school personnel. Therefore, they do not fall under the supervision of the Principal. Should there be a misunderstanding between the parents and the facilitator (s); parents must then raise the issue directly with the person concerned. Prior to the activity, the facilitator takes the children from aftercare and brings them back to aftercare upon completion of the activity.
- If students are still at school at 2:40 p.m. they are supervised at the aftercare.
- High school students are allowed to leave the school on their own. They must leave during opening and closing hours of the school gate or request assistance from the Secretary’s office. Under no circumstances are students allowed to carry an electronic key to open the gate.
