Participants Were Active in Seeking Health Information But Were Not Willing To Participate in Regular Medical Appointments In psychiatric care, there may still be a tendency to consider patients with mental problems as passive or unable to seek information about their own care (Crowe, O'Malley, & Gordon, 2001; Roberts, Geppert, & Bailey, 2002). The findings from the current study refute this notion. Most Chinese patients and caregivers were active in seeking information via different sources. Health professionals were noted as the most preferred resource, however participants complained that health professionals were too busy to provide sufficient information to them. This finding is in line with a previous study where patients were generally dissatisfied with the information they received from their health professionals, and they tended to access information from a variety of other sources (Tsai & Chen, 2006).
