Rhizomes of Indian tetraploid variety of Acorus calamus L. (collected from the
nursery of Horticulture Department, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi) were
planted under natural field condition at the Botanical garden, Department of
Botany, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (India). For experimental purpose,
these equal-sized rhizomes were transplanted on experimental plots of 1 Â1 m2
area. After the emergence of leaves, plants were thinned to 9 plants per plot in
rows at equal distances for uniformity in growth. Plants were watered uniformly to
maintain optimum water regime in each plot
