Good afternoon Richard,
Following on from K. Mim’s email at the end of last week, here’s a clear explanation of the work that needs to be carried out on your XJ…
• The cutting out is being caused by a modification to the security wiring in the boot next to the battery. Previously someone has removed the security and locking module and re-routed/bypassed the wiring… this is giving us an engine start/stumble with cutting out after 5 minutes. The module is no longer available through Jaguar or Heritage, however, the correct module (LNG2600HB012) is available from David Manners Group in the UK… please see link below:
http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/PartView.asp?partno=LNG2600&perpage=10&imageField.x=36&imageField.y=2
We don’t have any account with DMG but they accept payment with a credit card and are a very reliable company. Please note though, you will need an additional key and two remote plips to activate the security/immobilisation system.
• The ‘restricted performance’ message on the instrument pack is being generated by a fault in the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor… this sensor tells the engine management system how much air is entering the engine so that the fuelling can be adjusted to load. Unfortunately this part is only available to us from the UK so would take 10-14 days to arrive.
• My technician did point out that the bonnet release cable and handle were damaged/missing… we can also source these parts from the UK should you wish to have them replaced.
In addition to these concerns above, you did mention about the bonnet leaper and the timing chains and tensioners…
• The bonnet leaper is a one piece unit which for safety reasons has to be spring loaded (in case of pedestrian impact), so, if you only have the leaper itself without the spring loaded base, we would have to obtain a price for a full leaper from the UK… I believe the kit is still available but would have to check.
• The timing chains and tensioners appear to be original and as I’m sure Mitch has told you, they can be a cause for concern. I would recommend that you get them replaced at the soonest but as the engine is not yet ‘rattling’ on start-up it would suggest that you have some time to play with. As I mentioned in a previous email, the parts and labour come to around the 100K THB mark plus the dreaded VAT of course. I will ask K. Boy and K. Mim to draft up a couple of quotations for you so you can see what your current bill will be and what the additional work would come to should you wish to have it carried out.
In the interim, if you have any further questions… please feel free to contact me.
@ K.Boy & K.Mim,
Please can you liaise with me ASAP so we can draft up the quotations for Mr. Felton.
Many thanks & Kindest regards,
