the gap narrowed to about half of
its original size during the studied period. A similar trend
of a narrowing gender gap has been indicated in the Kling
et al. (1999) meta-analysis and reported also in some other
studies (Galambos et al., 2006; Orth et al., 2010; Robins
et al., 2002). Thus it seems that the gender gap that
emerges in early adolescence, gradually diminishes
thereafter, possibly disappearing in old age. As regards
the shape of the self-esteem trajectory between ages
16 and 42 years, we found no differences between genders.
