Challenging our understanding of design through clever composition (or, more accurately, decomposition), Damian Ortega creates installations that expose minute details of common objects from classic Volkswagen Beetles to the contents of toolsheds. The display of the individual components serves to broaden the viewer’s comprehension of the mechanisms and functions, and how they interact to make cars drive and buildings stand. Ortega takes found objects, which many pretentious “artists” would call art by themselves, and quite literally rips them apart, revealing a world unseen by most.
