non-caring as, for example, intrusive hands-on breastfeeding
help, or care that focuses solely on the infant or
the body. Such care is degrading in that it objectifies the
woman and reduces her to solely an instrumental functionality.
Although individual carers may try to disrupt
this pattern, it seems to be of no importance for breastfeeding
continuance. The feeling of being a worthless
object has already been integrated too much in the
mother’s self-concept for breastfeeding to continue.
