International tourism is increasinglyviewed as one of the best opportunitiesfor a sustainable economic and socialdevelopment of developing countries. Thereis also an increasing concern from publicpolicy makers as to whether mass tourismcoastal resorts can play a catalytic role in theoverall economic development and improvethe real income of their community. In thisarticle, we present a general example whichexplicitly takes into consideration specificfeatures of some developing countries toanalyze the ways by which an inboundtourism boom affects this kind of country,in particular its real income. We define theconditions under which an inbound tourismboom makes developing countries residentsworse off.
