Alphabet Soup
Materials Needed: Bulletin Board:
Lined Paper Colored paper (background) & trim.
Pencils Draw a huge bowl on the paper, and title the display “Alphabet Soup.”
Create soup spoons with writing guides.
Activity:
Give each student a sheet of lined paper with their first initial written on the first line.
Instruct children to practice writing the letter, filling the page.
If the child succeeds in forming the letter perfectly at least 3 times (I use a red pen to put a star over the three best “perfect” letters), they go to the bulletin board and write this letter in the bowl of Alphabet soup.
The next day, students who still need practice writing their first letter do so. Students who “passed” the first letter, now get a sheet of lined paper with the second letter of their name on it, and practice writing it.
Repeat until the child’s full name has
been added to the class
alphabet soup.
